Mark Spitz made history at the Munich Olympic Games in 1972, by winning seven gold medals before retiring from swimming. This remarkable feat has since yet to be matched.

Spitz also set world records in the 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 4×100m freestyle relay, 4×200m freestyle relay and the 4×100m medlay relay.

Having retired, Spitz followed Johnny Weissmuller into films, but lacked charisma in front of the cameras and was unable to develop an acting career. Weissmuller a previous champion won five Olympic Golds and a bronze before starring as Tarzan in 12 movies.
