What do you give the man who has everything? The answer for the insatiable Michael Phelps is one last gold medal to add to a heap of bullion which exceeds anything the Olympics has ever seen. Only the President has stood proudly erect through more televised anthems and there has never been a swimmer whose medal-winning has threatened such a serious case of neckache. When the 23-year-old flies back to the States, the airport metal detector will go bananas.

Saturday night’s Opening Ceremony marked the beginning of the Paralympic Games for over 4000 athletes competing in Beijing. About a quarter of these will be contesting the Athletics events at the Bird’s Nest Stadium.
Athletics stars from across the globe have been completing their final training routines at the National Stadium warm-up venue. On Monday the Bird’s Nest arena will be transformed, and the first 10 Paralympic Athletics gold medals will be decided.

The USGA and PGA Tour would love to have golf back in the Olympic Games and I couldn’t agree more. 1904 was the last time golf was played in the Olympics and since then it’s taken a back seat to great events like badminton, archery, and fencing!
The argument seems to be that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) already thinks golf is international enough. I think that’s a fairly narrow point of view since I’ve never seen a golfer from Russia or Haiti. The professional golfers and followers, think it’s a tremendous opportunity to expose the world to this entertaining and enjoyable sport. It’s the chance to get golf further exposed to 138 countries.
