Tips On How To Defeat Diabetes
Diabetes, if left untreated, can lead to heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, even death. People with diabetes have abnormally high blood levels of glucose (blood sugar) because their bodies either can’t release or correctly use insulin ( a hormone meant o normalize glucose levels). Here’s how to minimize, delay, or possibly even prevent diabetes, which adults are typically at risk for.
1.Don’t gain weight. Most people who develop type two diabetes are obese. “ Excess weight makes your pancreas work harder just to produce extra insulin,” says Priscilla Hollander, M.D., an endocrinologist at Baylor University Medical Center in Texas, USA. Eventually your pancreas won’t be able to keep up, insulin levels fall, and diabetes results when glucose builds up in the blood.
2.If you have diabetes and are overweight, shed just 10 to 15 pounds, and you can improve your symptoms and prevent some of the complications.
3.Have at least once a month fasting blood glucose test to check glucose levels in your blood. The normal fasting blood sugar is 70-120mg/dl. If yours exceeds 126mg/dl then consult your doctor. You may be at risk of developing the disease.
4. Avoid too much eating sweets. If you do, drink plenty of water.
5. Have a regular exercise habit and discipline yourself in accomplishing it.
6. Minimize drinking carbonated beverages as this may increase your blood sugar.
7. Drink plenty of water a day and eat fiber enrich foods to keep you going throughout your day.
8. Avoid delays in mealtime. Eat meals on time.
